Museums/Spiritual Hotspots

Museums and spiritual hotspots

For the visitor who likes to discover contemporary BiH, visiting the museums and find out something about the past of this country can be a good place to start. And there is a plenty of museum to explore.

You can start by visiting the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina founded in 1888.

Walking distance from National Museum visitors can find the Museum of Sarajevo, Jewish Museum of BiH, Sarajevo Museum of Olympic Games or Historical Museum of BiH. Apart from the capital tourists can visit the Herzegovina Museum in Mostar, Museum of Republic of Srpska in Banja Luka or Museum of the city of Zenica. The richness of BiH culture is not represented solely in the museums.

Cultural heritage is preserved in the architecture and the numerous monasteries around the country. Just to mention couple of most attractive cultural sites around BiH. Those are: Tvdos Monastery located around the city of Trebinje, St Jacobs Church in Medjugorje, Dobrun Monastery located around city of Visegrad or Kraljeva Sutjeska.

Most BiH museums and spiritual hotspots are the great places to learn about cultural heritage. Also you can find original postcards and purchase some of the original local handicrafts (wines, honey, and clothes) manufactured in the monasteries corresponding to their tradition.
