The Vrbas River, a fast mountain 250 kilometers long river, springs at the southern slope of the Vranica Mountain and flows into the Sava River near Srbac, in the western part of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In its upper stream, from the source to Jajce, the Vrbas River is a mountain river with many rapids and cascades. In the middle, the river carves its way through limestone canyons and becomes wider and calmer in its lower flow from Banja Luka to its confluence.
Before it enters Banja Luka, the river passes through the Canyon of Vrbas and forms stunning cliffs, home to eagles, hawks and falcons. It is perfect for water sports, such as rafting and kayaking. Since the river is abundant in fish, it is especially appealing to fishermen.
In 2005, the European Championships in Rafting took place on the Vrbas River, and the World Rafting Championship in 2009.
