Where to go  >  Rivers
BiH is a country with spectacular rivers which make it one of top 5 destinations in Europe for rafting and fishing. Depending if you are interested in amateur rafting or more extreme experiences in the river - you can find both in BiH.
The River Una was named by the Romans, who exclaimed ‘UNA’ when they saw it for the first time, meaning the one and only in Latin.
The Neretva River’s unique color earned it a name of the “emerald river.” This mountain river is quite a marvel, with its 220 kilometers it is the longest river in the eastern Adriatic Basin and flows through both Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia.
The Vrbas River, a fast mountain 250 kilometers long river, springs at the southern slope of the Vranica Mountain and flows into the Sava River near Srbac, in the western part of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Drina River (460 kilometers long) begins where the Tara and Piva rivers merge. The river is the largest tributary of the Sava River.
The Bosna River springs in the village of Vrutci near Ilidza, at the foothills of the Igman Mountain, 500 meters above the sea level. The spring is one of the main tourist attractions of Sarajevo.
The Pliva River is located in the northern part of the central Bosnia and Herzegovina. The river connects Jajce, Jezero and Sipovo.
The Sava River represents the natural northwestern boundary of the Balkan Peninsula and it flows through four countries - Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. From its source in the Julian Alps in Slovenia, the Sava Rivers flows southeastward for about 940 km, through Croatia, along part of Bosnia and Herzegovina's northern border, and into Serbia, where it merges with the Danube River in Belgrade.
The Sanica River is a clear and cold mountain river with springs at the foothills of the Grmec Mountain. It is the left tributary of the Sana River.
The Trebisnjica River, formerly one of the longest underground rivers in Europe, flows through Trebinje in Herzegovina. It is 98 kilometers long.
The Unac River emerges near Drvar, flows through it and merges into the Una River in Martin Brod. It is a mountain river and the right tributary of the Una River.
The Rakitnica Rivers sprigs from several slopes of the Bjelasnica Mountain, near the village of Rakitnica, and flows into the Neretva River at the intersection of the Bjelasnica, Visocica, and Prenj Mountains, near the Boracko Lake.
