The Posavina Canton is located in the heart of Bosnian Posavina, in the northeastern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, near the right bank of the Sava River and in the upper stream of the Bosna River. The canton encompasses the municipalities of Orasje, Odzak and Domaljevac-Samac.
The Sava River is the northern border of the canton, which the Bosna Rivers divides on two parts. Both rivers are rich in fish and are attractive for fishermen.
The center of the canton is Orasje, known as “the gate” of Bosnia and Herzegovina, because one of the main border crossings towards the Republic of Croatia is located there. The two states are also connected with the ferry crossing in Donji Svilaj in the Odzak municipality.
Remains of a Roman city were found in Josik and it is supposed that the city was Ad Bosante. Valuable collections from the past of this area are kept in the Franciscan monastery in Tolisa. In 1823, the first elementary school in Bosnia and Herzegovina was opened in Tolisa.
